Get Lifted

Is Serena Williams in a Wimbledon state of mind?

‘I have to lift my level of my game.’

Tennis champion Serena Williams recently participated in the new #LeanInTogether campaign, explaining in a video how her opponents have inspired her.

“I definitely get better as the women I play get better because I have to lift my level of my game,” Williams said.

It’s been a year since Williams’ win at the 2015 Wimbledon Championships, which then gave her a 21-4 career record in Grand Slam finals. She later went on to lose to Roberta Vinci in the semifinals of the 2015 U.S. Open, which ended her run to claim all four Grand Slam singles titles in a calendar year.

As she prepares for the 2016 Wimbledon Championships, which start on Monday, she reflects on her 2016 losses to Angelique Kerber in the Australian Open final and to Garbiñe Muguruza in the French Open final.

Williams spent the offseason preparing for her new documentary Serena, which aired Wednesday on EPIX. She also graced the cover of Glamour magazine and made an appearance in Beyoncé’s visual album Lemonade.
