LSU’s Leonard Fournette says his daughter is his inspiration

The Heisman-contending running back says everything is a ‘team effort’ heading into the season

Leonard Fournette was a standout last season as his LSU Tigers finished 9-3 in the SEC.

The 6-foot-1 junior had some Heisman-type highlights, but as the season progressed, Alabama running back Derrick Henry, who was the 45th overall pick drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the 2nd round of the 2016 NFL draft, became the Heisman forerunner and won.

Fournette didn’t sweat it. He spent his offseason focusing on improving his game and expanding his overall contribution to his team. Despite how last season ended, he knew they’d played their hearts out each game.

To remain inspired, he looks to his 1 1/2-year-old daughter, Lyric.

“My main motivation is my daughter,” Fournette said. “Everything I do is for her.”

Lyric was born in January 2015, five weeks before her due date, with a few complications. She is now healthy and inspiring her father daily.

Check out a few glimpses of Fournette and baby Lyric.
