Are the New Orleans Pelicans title contenders?
Julius Randle tried to tell us, maybe we should listen
They’re only three games into the NBA season, but the New Orleans Pelicans have already shown that they’re going to be a force in the Western Conference. Anthony Davis is dominating on both sides of the ball as he makes his case for being the best in the game, and the formidable Pelicans supporting cast has propelled New Orleans to an undefeated record (including a blowout of the Houston Rockets). Under fourth-year head coach Alvin Gentry, the Pelicans boast the top offense in the NBA, leading the league in offensive efficiency and assists while posting the fourth-fewest turnovers.
Maybe New Orleans forward Julius Randle was right when he told The Undefeated’s Marc Spears in September that the Pelicans were going to be title contenders this season?
The Western Conference is as crowded and competitive as it’s ever been, and only time will tell whether New Orleans can hang with the conference’s top teams. But after the way the Pelicans have started their season, here’s why this New Orleans team could be a real contender.
