Caylin Newton matures as Howard’s QB
He’s the MEAC’s offensive leader by a wide margin
Quarterback Caylin Newton regained some of his offensive luster Nov. 3 against Florida A&M, as Howard beat the Rattlers 31-23. After a subpar game in the Bison’s homecoming loss to South Carolina State on Oct. 27, Newton came back with a three-touchdown performance against FAMU, with two touchdown passes and one run into the end zone.
Through eight games, he has 2,127 yards with 18 touchdowns passing as well as 543 rushing yards and three touchdowns on the ground.
As a sophomore, Newton says he’s now better able to evaluate defenses and incorporate the Bison’s offensive weapons, running back Dedrick Parson and wide receivers Jequez Ezzard and Kyle Anthony, into the mix.
Newton leads the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference’s top offense at 472 yards a game and is the league leader in total offense. No. 2 in the MEAC is Norfolk State quarterback Juwan Carter, who is 100 yards behind Newton. The two will face each other this weekend as the Bison visit Norfolk State on Saturday.
