ICYMI: Halle Berry to help fight cancer as ambassador of new campaign
The Key to the Cure campaign is gearing up and the actress is the face of this year’s initiative
From becoming the first African-American woman to compete in the Miss World pageant to being an Oscar-winning Hollywood actress, Halle Berry will roll into her 50th birthday on Aug. 14, and she’s doing it in style. In her most recent endeavor, she is lending her name and face to help fight cancer.
The actress is teaming up with Saks Fifth Avenue’s Key to the Cure campaign. The initiative is in its 18th year and the main goal is to raise money for cancer research and treatment alongside its partner, the Entertainment Industry Foundation.
According to its website, the Entertainment Industry Foundation, as a leading charitable organization in the entertainment industry, has distributed hundreds of millions of dollars to support charitable initiatives addressing critical health, education and social issues.
As the face of the 2016 cancer research initiative, Berry sports a limited-edition T-shirt designed by Christian Louboutin that will go on sale once the campaign rolls out Oct. 1. For the second year in a row, 100 percent of the sales of the T-shirts will benefit the Stand Up To Cancer organization.
“I, like so many others, have been touched by cancer, which is why I’m proud to continue to lend my support to the Entertainment Industry Foundation and Stand Up To Cancer in serving as this year’s Key to the Cure ambassador,” Berry, 49, said in a statement. “I hope everyone will join me in supporting this critical cause by purchasing a Key to the Cure T-shirt.”
The campaign has raised close to $40 million for cancer research and treatment organizations throughout the United States. The T-shirt will be available for $35 at all Saks Fifth Avenue locations in the United States and Canada, as well as on saks.com and saksoff5th.com.
